While I am excited by the increasing options to choose from when it comes to makeup for women of color, especially those of us with a darker hue, the disparity when comparing those choices to mainstream makeup is still hard to ignore.
When it comes to foundations and concealers especially, I still find myself having to mix colors and products even, to achieve looks suitable for my skin tone and skin type. And oftentimes when I do find products that I'm able to work with, it can cost a cute lil coin. Don't get me wrong, I do not have a problem with paying top dollar for products that serve but even then the product doesn't always check every box. I'm sure I speak for many of us when saying the struggle is real!
My makeup choices are ever evolving as I am always on the hunt for new products to try, especially if it means improvement. Additionally, from season to season as my skin texture and tone changes from time to time, the tweaking of products is always a must.
Although more options most complimentary to women of color is still a work in progress, I have been able to secure a few "go tos" in my rotation (old and new) and I am glad to share some of them with my fellow sisters who also have a more chocolaty hue. Get excited because these will not break the bank!
